New Delhi: Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw on Tuesday reacted to his recent snub from the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy, which starts on December 21. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) announced a 17-member squad for the premier 50-over domestic tournament.
Shaw, who was part of Mumbai’s victorious campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, hasn’t been considered for the longer white-ball cricket by the selectors. Just moments after the squad announcement was made, the 25-year-old Shaw took to his Instagram story to post about his disappointment with the axing.
He wrote:
“Tell me God, what more do I have to see.. if 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough… but I will keep my faith in you and hopefully people believe in me still.. cause I will come back for sure.. OM SAI RAM..”
Why Prithvi Shaw wasn’t selected for Mumbai in Vijay Hazare Trophy
This is the most difficult period of Shaw’s career, once considered as the next big thing in Indian cricket. He was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad in the middle of the group stage and later wasn’t picked by any of the 10 franchises in the IPL auction. The recent Vijay Hazare Trophy snub only adds to the list of setbacks the India U19 World Cup winning captain faces.
According to a report by The Indian Express, a source in the MCA said that the selectors were of the opinion that Shaw should go and get his form back by playing club cricket. The Mumbai opener didn’t have a good outing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, having scored 197 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 156.34.
Mumbai captain Shreyas Iyer recently remarked that Prithvi has a great talent, but the team management cannot babysit him and himself needs to improve on his work ethic.
