New Delhi: Pratika Rawal made her much-awaited ODI debut for the Indian women’s cricket team in the 1st ODI against West Indies at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, December 22. The 24-year-old became the 150th ODI cricketer for the Indian women’s team after receiving her maiden cap from Indian opener Smriti Mandhana ahead of the start of the game.

Rawal went on to make an impressive debut as she shone with the bat in her maiden ODI appearance for the Indian women’s team. Opening the batting with Mandhana for India, Rawal was involved in a brilliant 110-run opening stand with her senior pro. The duo got India off to a flying start in the game with a terrific batting display in Vadodara.

The 110-run stand between the duo brought an end to a 6-year-long wait for the Indian women’s team as it was the first 100-run partnership between the openers in an ODI since 2018. Rawal played a valuable knock of 40 runs off 69 balls with the help of four boundaries to play her part in the magnificent opening stand while Mandhana went on to notch up 91 off 102 deliveries.

24-year-old Pratika Rawal is a right-hand batter who plays for Delhi in the Indian domestic circuit. She opens the batting and is also a handy spin bowler. Rawal is a psychology student and started playing cricket at the tender age of 10. She grew through the ranks in domestic cricket before earning her maiden ODI cap for India on Sunday.

Rawal has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and has been knocking on the selectors’ doors for a while now. She first came into the limelight during the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy in 2021 where she amassed 247 runs for Delhi in seven matches at an average close to 50 and a strike rate of 78.41.

In the last edition of the Women’s One-Day Cup, Rawal finished as the second-highest run-getter of the tournament with 411 runs at an average of 68.50, including two centuries to showcase her batting prowess. She led Delhi to the final of the Under-23 T20 Trophy where they lost to Madhya Pradesh. She scored 182 runs in 9 matches in the tournament and was the second-highest run-getter for her team.
