New Delhi: Manchester City’s recent form has drawn a lot of flack from their supporters and a lot of ridicule from the rival fans. The defending champions are in the worst run of form that have ever been under Pep Guardiola and this decline doesn’t seem to stop. One individual in particular who has drawn the ire of a lot of fans and pundits alike, is Manchester City’s Norwegian powerhouse, Erling Haaland.
The 24-year-old, often regarded as one of the best strikers in the world is struggling to live up to that tag since the end of September. Haaland started the season on fire but ever since the 2-2 draw against Arsenal, his form has tailed off massively and his goalscoring woes continued against Everton tonight as the striker missed a crucial penalty that would’ve seen his side take the lead at home.

City’s Brazilian winger, Savinho, drew a foul from Everton’s Vitaliy Mykolenko inside the 18-year box and after a VAR check was complete, the Cityzens were awarded a penalty. Haaland, who is City’s regular penalty taker, stepped up to take the spot kick but fluffed his lines, leading to his penalty being saved by Jordan Pickford in goal. The penalty was low and hard but Pickford was on hand to deny Haaland, who ultimately scored off the rebound, but was denied on account of being in an offside position.

Ever since he broke onto the footballing scene with RB Salzburg, Haaland has long been considered one of the best strikers in the world. He took that reputation with him wherever he’s gone and carried the same at Manchester City as well. Having won the golden boot in both of his seasons at the club, Haaland started the season on incredible form as well having scored 10 goals in his first five games.
However, since scoring his 10th goal of the league season, his Midas touch seems to have waned off as in the 13 games since the draw with Arsenal, he’s only scored three goals in the Premier League. Historically in the league, Haaland has a great penalty record having scored 15 of his 16 total penalties, with the only miss coming against Sheffield last season but another miss against Everton tonight has seen another blemish on the striker’s record.
