Massive blow for Pakistan as opener Saim Ayub ruled out for six weeks with injury
New Delhi: In a massive blow to Pakistan, opener Saim Ayub has been sidelined for almost six weeks due an injury to his ankle. Ayub, who opens for the Men in Green in all the formats, is doubtful for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy as well. The opening batter sustained an injury in the ankle on the opening day of the ongoing second Test match against South Africa in Cape Town on Friday.
Ayub for the time being has been ruled out of the Test match at Newlands and the team will have to wait for his participation in the big ICC event which remains doubtful as of now. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Saturday that MRIs and other tests were carried out on the batter and the doctors have advised Saim six weeks rest.

Saim hurt his ankle while fielding

The Pakistan player had hurt his ankle while fielding on the boundary on the first day of the ongoing match against Proteas. As soon as he twisted his ankle, he fell in pain and screamed for medical help. Pakistan’s medical team attended to the player on the field for some time before a limping Ayub was taken back to the pavilion and from there to the hospital.

‘He has a right ankle fracture injury which will take at least six weeks to heal,’ a board official confirmed. Saim’s fractured ankle has been put in an Ankle Medical Moon Boot as part of his rehabilitation process. Apart from missing the ongoing Test match, he is almost certain to miss a two-match Test series at home against the West Indies later this month and also the tri-series with South Africa and New Zealand in February. He could possibly be replaced by Imam-ul-Haq for the Tests and Fakhar Zaman for the ODIs.
