New Delhi: Star batter Smriti Mandhana continued her dream scoring run in the ongoing women’s ODI series against Ireland. Mandhana smashed a sensational century in the ongoing third ODI against Ireland at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday. and achieved a huge landmark. The stylish left-handed batter reached the three-figure mark in 70 balls and broke Harmanpreet Kaur’s record for fastest century for India in women’s ODI cricket.
Mandhana now holds the record for smashing the fastest ODI hundred by an Indian woman, bettering her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s record from 87 balls against South Africa in 2024.
The stand-in skipper scored her 10th ODI hundred with the help of nine fours and four sixes.
Mandhana’s 70-ball ton is the joint-seventh fastest in the 50-over format, going level with former England skipper Charlotte Edwards’ feat from 2012.
Mandhana added a massive 233-run partnership with Pratika Rawat, who also continued her superb scoring run. The stand-in skipper was eventually dismissed for 135 (80 balls) in the 27th over as India looked on course to get another massive score.
India lead the 3-match series 2-0 and look favourites to whitewash the hapless Irish side. The Women in Blue are also likely to surpass their highest ODI score of 370, which they posted in the second ODI at the same venue.
Mandhana surpasses Athapaththu, Edwards, Sciver-Brunt
By scoring her 10th ODI century, Mandhana jumped to the joint-third spot in the list of most centuries in women’s ODI cricket. The Indian icon surpassed Sri Lanka’s explosive batter Chamari Athapaththu, former England batter, Charlotte Edwards and another English icon Nat Sciver-Brunt to reach the joint-third spot.
Mandhana is now level with English opener Tammy Beaumont with 10 centuries. Only New Zealand legend Suzie Bates (13) and former Australia captain Meg Lanning (15) have scored more centuries than the Indian superstar batter.
