New Delhi: Spanish great Rafael Nadal, who bid adieu to the world of tennis three months ago, has shed light on how retirement feels. Nadal was spotted in public for the first time since calling it quits as the Spaniard was honoured with an extraordinary trophy at the 77th Grand Gala in Barcelona, Spain. The tennis star was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the sport in two decades.

After a series of injuries, which resulted in some mediocre performances in the last year, Nadal finally decided to hang his boots after representing Spain for over two decades in tennis. The 22-Grand Slam champion played his last match in Malaga at the Davis Cup finals. Meanwhile, at the Gala ceremony, the tennis great shed light on how life has been post retirement and how tough were the last few years in his career.

Nadal confesses he already felt out of practice

Rafael Nadal said that he has been a little out of this world for a while since he decided to retire from tennis. Elated to have received the honour, the 38-year-old, thanked the organisers for recognising his efforts explaining how retirement felt. He admitted that it was easy to move on especially after understanding and seeing how tough the ending time of his career was.

He said that he felt very happy and is trying to adapt to what is a new chapter in his life for the moment. The tennis great also said that at the moment, he does not miss the day to day and is feeling fine as he used to  and also coping on well. Nadal admitted that the last few years proved to be very difficult and that is the thing which helps him not to miss the game so much.

Rafael Nadal saw almost the last two years of his career being sidelined by injuries before hanging his boots. He announced his retirement in October 2024 and ended his career a month later in November.
