New Delhi: India ended their T20I season with a bang and set the tone for a blockbuster 2025 after crushing South Africa 3-1 in a 4-match T20I series. With their 24th win in 26 games this year, Team India sent a strong signal to their rivals ahead of 2025. Team India’s next T20I assignment is at the beginning of 2025 against white-ball powerhouses England and fans can’t wait for the contest to start.
A lot of credit should go to new skipper Suryakumar Yadav for leading a young team to glory in the Rainbow Nation but it’s also true that it was Rohit Sharma who sewed the seeds of fearless cricket ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Not long ago, India were slammed for not embracing the fast-paced T20 cricket and were called out for their outdated style of play.
But under Rohit’s leadership, India played attacking cricket in the Americas earlier this year and brushed aside all the top teams en route to a historic T20 World Cup title.
India embrace T20 cricket
A change in mindset has worked wonders for the Men in Blue who have truly embraced T20 cricket in 2024. With a free licence to express themselves, the next-gen superstars have played with freedom and fearlessness and the results are there to see.
In a matter of just over a month, India have posted the highest and the second-highest team total in T20I cricket by a full-member nation.
India’s mammoth 283 for 1 against South Africa in the fourth T20I was an example of their fearless brand of cricket. In October, they destroyed Bangladesh and posted 297/6 in Hyderabad.
Under the changed atmosphere, players like Sanju Samson often criticised for inconsistency, have flourished. The Kerala batter hit his third T20I century of the calendar year on Friday becoming the only batter to do so. Young players like Tilak Varma have also risen to the occasion in the current setup, which allows the players to express themselves without any fear.
India started 2024 with a 3-0 whitewash of Afghanistan at home and won all eight matches in their victorious T20 World Cup campaign. Series wins against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka in July and a home whitewash of Bangladesh in October continued their marauding run. The series against South Africa in South Africa was seen as a challenging affair for the Men in Blue but in the end, it proved to be a cakewalk for the unstoppable Indians.
After guiding the Men in Blue to a historic T20 World Cup win, Rohit handed over the baton to Surya, and his Mumbai compatriot has continued the good work.
Team India lost only two matches in 2024 and won all the bilateral series along with the T20 World Cup 2024 in Americas earlier this year. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
