New Delhi: Haryana dominated the proceedings in archery competitions at the National Games 2025 on Friday. Haryana won a gold medal each in the men’s and women’s Indian round team events. Meanwhile, Kerala defeated Uttarakhand 1-0 in the final to clinch the elusive gold medal in men’s football. It was another action-packed day at the ongoing 38th National Games with athletes from several states shining on the big stage.
Haryana’s quartet of Ashish Malik, Yashu, Rahul and Ravi defeated Uttar Pradesh in the men’s round team archery competition to win gold. While Uttar Pradesh settled for silver, Maharashtra’s team comprising of Gaurav Sanjayrao Chandane, Roshan Narayan Solanke, Aniket Mahendra Gavade and Pawan Sadanrao Jadhav won the bronze medal.
In the women’s Indian round archery event, Haryana clinched the top spot on the podium once again after the quartet of Divya, Nikita, Monika and Kajal defeated Manipur to win gold. Manipur won the silver medal while Chattishgarh claimed bronze.
In the men’s individual event, Uttar Pradesh’s Manish defeated state-mate Subham to win gold while Manipur’s Chingakham Nelson Singh took the bronze medal. Manipur’s Laiphrakpam Rojina Devi won gold in the women’s individual event with Chattishgarh’s Chandni Sahu winning silver and Tutumoni Boro of Assam winning bronze.
Kerala win gold in men’s football
Kerala defeated hosts Uttarakhand 1-0 in a dramatic final to win the gold medal in men’s football at the National Games 2025 on Friday. Gokul S scored the winner for Kerala in the 52nd minute to help them win the gold medal in men’s football after 28 years at the National Games.
Gokul’s goal put Kerala ahead in the 52nd minute in the summit clash but the visitors were on the knife’s edge after defender Safwan M was sent off controversially with more than 20 minutes left on the clock. However, Kerala produced a stellar defensive display to hold on to their 1-0 lead and beat Utarrakhand 1-0 in the final to finish on the top of the podium.
Kerala have now won three gold medals in men’s football at the National Games, keeping them on level terms with Bengal and Punjab for most titles in the sport.
