New Delhi: India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra, on Sunday, responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message for him after he breached the elusive 90-metre mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025 on Friday. Neeraj, a two-time Olympic medallist, finally managed to breach the 90m mark for the first time in an international competition in his career.
The two-time Olympic medallist produced a brilliant throw of 90.23m to get the monkey off his back and become the first Indian to achieve the staggering feat. However, his career-best effort was not enough to secure Neeraj the top spot in the Doha Diamond League as he finished behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw a stunning 91.06m.
Nonetheless, it was a historic moment in Indian sports as Neeraj had been chasing the 90m mark for a long time now. Following his stellar effort, PM Modi had taken to social media to praise the 27-year-old javelin superstar.
“A spectacular feat! Congratulations to Neeraj Chopra for breaching the 90 m mark at Doha Diamond League 2025 and achieving his personal best throw. This is the outcome of his relentless dedication, discipline and passion. India is elated and proud,” PM Modi wrote on X. Neeraj responded to PM’s message on X on Sunday and vowed to give his best for the country in the future.
“Thank you shri @narendramodi ji for your kind words and encouragement. I hope to continue and give my best for the country always,” Neeraj wrote on X.

3rd Asian and 26th in the world to breach the 90m mark
With his 90.23m throw, Neeraj not only became the first Indian but also only the third Asian to breach the 90m mark in an international javelin competition. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Chinese Taipei’s Chao-Tsun Cheng are the only other Asians to have thrown over 90m in an international competition. Neeraj is overall the 26th player to have crossed the 90m mark in men’s javelin throw.
Despite bringing an end to the wait to throw 90m, it was a bittersweet moment for Neeraj in the Doha Diamond League as he failed to grab the top spot. Weber produced his career-best throw of 91.06m, the best by any player in the competition to take the top spot. However, Neeraj, who is training under Czech coach Jan Zelezny, is confident of throwing over 90m in the upcoming competitions.
