New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been relocated from Bengaluru to Lucknow, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo. The final home fixture of the Bengaluru-based side, set to be played on Friday, May 23, has been moved to Lucknow due to adverse weather conditions in South India.
The relocation of the venue means that RCB will now play their last two league games – against SRH and their final away fixture against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27 – at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
SRH, who were in Lucknow for their May 19th clash against LSG, were scheduled to fly to Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, but have been advised to stay back in Lucknow for the RCB clash.
IPL were forced to make the last-minute change due to a yellow alert issued by the meteorological department in Bengaluru that has predicted “heavy to very heavy rainfall” until Thursday.
Incessant rain washed out RCB’s previous home game against Kolkata Knight Riders last Friday. Since the abandonment, which happened on the day of the IPL resumption, RCB’s squad have stayed indoors due to rains and thunderstorms in the city.
The relocation comes as a blessing in disguise for the Challengers, who now have a clear path to finish in the top two. Had the match against SRH too been rained out, RCB would have potentially lost two crucial points in their quest to seal a top-two finish.
Mullanpur, Ahmedabad, to host play-offs
The BCCI has also finalised Mullanpur and Ahmedabad as the venues for the playoff fixtures a per the revised schedule, which was drafted following a brief suspension earlier this month. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mullanpur will host Qualifier 1 on May 29 and the eliminator the next day, while Ahmedabad will host Qualifier 2 and the final on June 1 and 3, respectively. The original schedule had Hyderabad and Kolkata as the hosts for the four games at the end of this month.
After the qualification of Punjab Kings (PBKS), RCB and Gujarat Titans (GT) in the playoffs, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) will battle for the last qualifying spot.
