New Delhi: India is aspiring to be one of the important players in aerospace manufacturing. Indian supply chains currently export aerospace components and services, but making a civilian aircraft is still a larger dream to become a reality. As per ET report, Tata Group has taken the baton to make this dream turn into reality. It has partnered with European aircraft maker Airbus “to set up a Final Assembly Line” in Karnataka’s Vemagal Industrial City.

TASL (Tata Advanced System), a subsidiary of the Tata Group, in a partnership with Airbus, will set up a fully integrated facility covering manufacturing, final assembly, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul). It is expected to produce 10 H125 helicopters annually in its initial phase. H125 helicopter is a best-selling helicopter of Airbus.

According to ET report, the proposed facility would be India’s first privately-led helicopter assembly facility. It will be the fourth such facility in the world after France, the US, and Brazil. The Vemagal Industrial facility of Kolar, Karnataka, will be the second such venture by the Tata Group. In 2024, TASL set up its first facility for a new C-295 aircraft manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, jointly with Airbus. The industrial facility is expected to commence its operations in 2026. Karnataka was selected for the investment after a competitive bidding. Karnataka’s established aerospace manufacturing ecosystem and skilled pool of talent played its part in securing the spot.

Make in India

India’s aerospace manufacturing is witnessing rapid and steady growth prospects. It has seen two such ventures coming in less than 12 months. PM Narendra Modi last year, after inaugurating the TATA-Airbus Aircraft Complex” in Vadodara, Gujarat, said, “We are already working to make India an aviation hub. This ecosystem will pave the way for made-in-India civil aircraft in the future… This factory is going to play a major role in the design and manufacturing of civil aircraft to meet the future needs of India and the world.”

Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) will partner with Airbus to establish India’s first privately led helicopter assembly facility in Karnataka The proposed partnership aims to strengthen India’s “Make in India” initiative and its ambition to become a major player in aerospace manufacturing. The project underscores Karnataka’s competitive aerospace ecosystem and skilled workforce.  Biz News Business News – Personal Finance News, Share Market News, BSE/NSE News, Stock Exchange News Today
