YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called for paper ballot voting to be instated in place of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in elections.
In a post on social media platform X, Jagan Reddy wrote that most advanced democracies in the world use paper ballots and not EVMs.
This comes after the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and his party saw a humiliating election loss in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
He further wrote, “Just as justice should not only be served, but should also appear to have been served, so should democracy not only prevail but must appear to be prevalent undoubtedly.
In electoral practices across the world in almost every advanced democracy, paper ballots are used, not EVMs. We too must move towards the same in upholding the true spirit of our democracy.”
YSRCP has managed to win merely 11 seats in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and 4 seats in the Lok Sabha while TDP won 135 seats in the Assembly and 16 seats in the lower house of the parliament. The NDA alliance won 164 Assembly seats and 21 Lok Sabha seats overall.
