Six and wicket! Reece Topley cleans up Virat Kohli, has the last laugh in T20 WC semi-final – WATCH

New Delhi: Team India star Virat Kohli flopped once as his woeful run as an opener continued in India’s clash against England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Thursday, June 27. Kohli was dismissed cheaply on 9 runs off 9 balls by England pacer Reece Topley in the all-important contest.

Opening the batting with skipper Rohit Sharma, Kohli struggled to time and middle the ball as he looked completely out of sorts in the semi-final. Kohli did manage to break the shackles against Topley in the third over when he smoked him over mid-wicket for a six with some brilliant wrist work. However, he was cleaned up by the pacer a ball later.

Kohli mistimed one for a double on the next ball before Topley bowled one into the right-hander and the ball rattled his stumps. It was not the best of deliveries from the left-arm pacer but Kohli’s dismissal proved the kind of form he has been in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far. The senior India batter was dejected after the dismissal and the disappointment was visible on his face.

Topley had the last laugh in the semi-final as he dismissed Kohli in the same over after being hit for a six. The left-arm pacer got England off to a good start with the ball as he drew the first blood for the defending champions in the third over of India’s innings. Kohli’s struggles continued as he has so far managed only 75 runs in seven matches in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Rohit Sharma in splendid touch

While Kohli failed to deliver once again, Rohit picked up from where he had left against Australia in India’s last outing as he looked in splendid touch against England. The Hitman continued his attacking approach against the England bowlers and ensured India didn’t lose momentum after Kohli’s dismissal and scored at a good pace.

Rohit was unbeaten on 37 off 26 balls laced with six fours when rain intervened the proceedings once again in the semi-final. India were 65/2 after the end of 8 overs at the break and will be hoping to post a big total on the board to put England under pressure in the semi-final.
