New Delhi: France football legend Thierry Henry ran with the Olympic torch as it began its journey through Paris for the upcoming 2024 Games.
The 1998 World Cup winner carried the flame down the French capital’s famous Champs-Elysees avenue, before heading for landmarks that included the National Assembly, the Pantheon and the Great Mosque of Paris.
Sunday (July 14) marked the first day of the Paris Olympic Torch Relay in the capital city, with the symbolic 57th stop during the course of the Relay coinciding with the Bastille Day, the national day of France.
Henry, the current coach of the U-23 French team that will participate in the Paris Olympics, he began his journey with the flame as the first torch bearer for the kick-off.

Before the beginning of the relay Henry said that being on the Champs-Elysees on Bastille Day with the Olympics torch was an emotional moment for him.
“This is just extraordinary, truly a big moment! Besides, the family is watching,” he said, as per olympics.com.
“Having this opportunity to be able to participate, not on the field of course, this is really great! We are preparing with the [French U23] team, we will try to go as far as possible.”
Henry termed the experience of running with the flame as “heart-warming,” as he passed it on to French judoka Romane Dicko, who will compete at Paris 2024.
