Hyderabad: An 18-month-old baby boy was mauled and killed by stray dogs when he was playing at his home in Jawahar Nagar area of the city on Tuesday night, Tv9 telugu reported.
The baby was taken to a local private hospital and the doctors who treated him suggested that he should be taken to Gandhi as his condition was serious. He died while being rushed to Gandhi Hospital.
The tragic incident sparked outrage among residents of Jawahar Nagar and highlights a growing issue of stray dog attacks in the city. Locals are demanding accountability from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) over the stray dog menace.
Stray dog attacks in Telangana in recent times:
On July 16, a stray dog attacked a boy while playing on the street in Managela, Birpur mandal of Jagtiyal. The dogs attacked the boy and seriously injured his face, ears and head, CCTV footage of the incident showed. The boy was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Four days ago, two women were attacked by stray dogs in Ghatkesar area. A six-year-old boy who was playing in front of his house in Sangareddy town’s Shanti Nagar was attacked last Wednesday, and was seriously injured. Incidents like this have become all too common over the last few weeks and months.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed condolences to the parents of the boy and directed officials to take action to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. The chief minister alerted authorities to take all measures to prevent the menace of stray dogs as such incidents have been occurring frequently. A toll-free number has been set up to receive complaints from people in areas where there is a problem of stray dogs.
