Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is going through a difficult phase after the authorities are been approached by the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) who have sought an explanation after registering a sou motto case against a coach who has been accused of sexually harassing minor girls.
In the notice, the SHRC asked the KCA to explain the circumstances under which the alleged incidents have taken place. The case is registered against Manu who was the coach under the KCA for the past 10 years.
Manu is been charged under POCSO sections after it was revealed that he had taken several girls who had arrived for coaching at the KCA to Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu and had sexually assaulted them.
The police have registered six POCSO cases against the accused after various complaints being made against the junior coach of sexually assaulting young girls who have joined the cricket training session.
The accused Manu was arrested and is currently in judicial custody.
One of the victims had given a statement that Manu tried to sexually assault her at the KCA headquarters.
The commission has demanded an explanation from the KCA over the allegations and following which various complaints being made by parents of the victims who had to face the atrocities from the coach over a long period of time. There are complaints that the accused coach had recorded nude pictures and videos of the girl children who are victims in the case.
“The children and their parents are under extreme mental stress after the incident. After the first victims parent filed a complaint, more victims are now coming forward. We are probing the case in detail. As of now, we cannot reveal more as far as the matter is concerned”, said an official who is probing the matter.
There are reports that the cricket body had refrained from taking action against the coach when the matter was reported initially. However, none from the KCA was ready to comment on the matter as the investigation is underway.
Manu was removed from the post after the allegations surfaced and the case was registered.
