‘I hope it doesn’t affect’: Leon Edwards on Muhammad’s performance ahead of their fight at UFC 304

New Delhi: Leon Edwards will defend his welterweight title against Belal Muhammad in the UFC main event at Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England on July 27.

This will be their second encounter as the two UFC fighters met in a five-round main event back in March 2021 in Las Vegas, where Edwards was in control before the fight was declared as no-contest via an unintentional eye poke.

This will be Muhammad’s first shot at gold despite being unbeaten in his last 10 bouts. Ahead of their fight Leon Edwards in an interview with Sky Sports said that he didn’t understand Muhammad’s animosity towards him.

Edwards said that he saw Muhammad’s interviews and it was like he hates everyone in his team and for him, it’s just another fight and he’s just another guy in his way.

“Neither do I. I don’t know. I see his interviews and it was like I hate him, his team, his manager, and everybody else. What the hell is going on? You know what I mean. I don’t know, Like for me it’s just another fight. There’s another guy that’s in my way to attain this goal I got in my brain that I want to attain him within the sport, that’s all it is for me” Edwards said on Sky Sports.

He also said that for some reason Muhammad built up animosity towards him and he hoped it wouldn’t affect his performance “But for some reason, he’s built up this animosity towards me but I hope it doesn’t affect his performance and I’m going there with a clear head. I am going to perform and show the world that I am number one” he added.

“I ain’t Conor McGregor and he ain’t Khabib”: Leon Edwards

Speaking at UFC 304 media day, Edwards said that I’m not Conor McGregor and Muhammad ain’t Khabib. He also said that he trained with Khabib but that doesn’t mean anything.

“I ain’t Conor McGregor and he ain’t Khabib. You can’t use Khabib to credit yourself. You ain’t Khabib. You didn’t grow up with Khabib. You probably trained for a little bit, that’s about it. I’ve trained with Khabib before. What does that mean? Nothing. He’s using another man’s work to gain confidence off his work, but you ain’t put that kind of work in.”

Leon Edwards didn’t understand why opponent Belal Muhammad had so much hatred towards him and he hoped that it wouldn’t affect Muhammad’s performance.  UFC Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
