New Delhi: All roads lead to Paris as world awaits a magnificent opening ceremony followed by an action-packed 18 days of sporting action. The 33rd edition of the Summer Olympics will officially kick-off with a glittering ceremony as approximately 80 boats on the Seine river will parade 205 delegations from across the world. The ceremony will drift from east to west, crossing multiple historic bridges in the French capital.
The one-of-a-kind journey will conclude at a temporary stadium named Champions Park built near the Eiffel Tower. It will host the opening declaration from French President Emmanuel Macron and the conclusion of the ceremony.
Here’s why Paris 2024 is special in many ways.
First time in 100 years
Life has come a full circle for Paris, which will host the Summer Olympics for the first time in a century. Last time Paris hosted Summer Games was in 1924. At that time, the Games were the second to be hosted by Paris after 1900, making it the first city to host the Olympics twice.
From wooden huts to modern marvels
Paris 1924 witnessed the birth of Olympics village. The first athlete accommodations were made of wooden huts and exactly a century later the Olympic Village returns to the French capital with world-class facilities.
Gender parity
The Paris Olympics is the first to achieve gender parity among athletes in the history of Summer Games. A total of 5,250 male and 5,250 female will participate in the grandest sporting spectacle.
River turns into track
For the first time in the history of the Summer Games, the opening ceremony will not be held in a stadium but on a river. Over 80 boats on the Seine river will parade 205 delegations from across the world amidst a crowd of over 3,00,000 spectators cheering from the banks of the river.
Biggest food event in the history of the Olympics
Paris 2024 is set to become the biggest food event in the history of Olympics. Four michellin-star chefs will serve approximately 13 million meals, catered to 15,000 athletes from 208 countries.
