While the reasons behind Akhtar’s post remain unknown, it took many by surprise. Nonetheless, the post resonated with a large number of fans. One of the best fast bowlers Pakistan has ever produced, Akhtar is known for his controversial opinions and outspoken nature. He continues to remain associated with the game as an expert after retiring as a player and rarely shies away from bashing the Pakistan team for their poor performances.

Akhtar recently lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma while congratulating Team India for their memorable triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final to lift the elusive trophy which brought an end to their 11-year-long ICC trophy drought. It was India’s second T20 World Cup title which came after a wait of 24 years.

Well-deserving victory for India: Shoaib Akhtar

Akhtar said the T20 World Cup triumph was a well-deserving one for India for the kind of cricket they played throughout the tournament. The former Pakistan pacer said India also deserved to win the 2023 ODI World Cup title last year but missed out on it closely. He had earlier called Rohit a selfless leader and highlighted his emotions after India’s victory in a video on his YouTube channel.

“Rohit Sharma has made it. Emotions are really high, well-deserving victory for India. Many, many congratulations to them. They lost in Ahmedabad (ODI World Cup final). I have said then also that India deserved to win. And this time they won it. Rohit Sharma was down on the ground, crying, says it all. What this win means to him,” Akhtar said in the video.

India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup title while remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. They defeated Ireland, Pakistan and USA in the group-stage followed by wins against Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the Super Eight. India thrashed England in the semi-final before clinching a thriller against South Africa in the final to win the trophy.
