New Delhi: Indian player Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket. The 38-year-old took to his social media platform to release a video about the most important decision of his professional life.
Dhawan played his last international match in the Indian shirt in December 2022 during the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Chattogram. He finished as India’s 12th-highest run-getter across all formats with 10,867 runs, including 55 half-centuries and 24 centuries.
Dhawan was instrumental in India’s Champions Trophy victory in England and Wales in 2013. He was adjudged as the player of the tournament for finishing as the highest run-getter with 363 runs in five innings at an average of 90.75.
Many former and current Indian cricketers, who played with the left-handed opening batter during his journey, congratulated him on his 12 years of international cricket. Shikhar Dhawan shares his bond with Virat Kohli
Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli have been teammates at both Delhi (in domestic cricket) and India (in international cricket) for over a decade. The two players have amassed 3430 runs in 60 ODI innings they have played together from 2011 to 2022 and remained unbeaten in three of them.
While sharing his bond with the former India captain, Dhawan was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times:
“Virat Kohli is the most funny in the Indian team. I share a great bond & relationships with him – we played together from childhood days.”
Shikhar Dhawan is the co-owner of South Delhi Superstars in the ongoing Delhi Premier League 2024.
