New Delhi: Star Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, on Thursday, announced retirement from the T20Is. The veteran cricketer also revealed that he will bid adieu to Test cricket after the South Africa series in October. The ace all-rounder was addressing media in Kanpur ahead of the second and final Test match against India starting on Friday.
South Africa is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh in mid-October for a two-match Test series. “I have played my last T20 match in T20 World Cup. We have discussed this with the selectors. Looking at the 2026 World Cup, this is the right time for me to move out. Hopefully BCB will find some great players and we will perform well,” said Shakib on the eve of the second and final Test against India.

Shakib’s participation in SA Test series subject to clearance
Shakib, who has been named in a FIR involving more than 100 people in Dhaka, is set to get the security clearance to play in the series. In case, he does receive the required clearance, then the second Test match of the ongoing series against India will be his last.
The 37-year-old Shakib has not travelled to Bangladesh since the political upheaval of the Sheikh Hasina regime in August. Shakib, who featured in 129 T20Is for Bangladesh will, however, continue to play in franchise leagues. Shakib Al Hasan would aim to make a mark in the second Test match against India in Kanpur. The veteran player scored 32 and 25 runs respectively in the first and second innings of the Chennai Test but could not take an wicket.
