New Delhi: Hannibal Mejbri has made a permanent move from Manchester United to Burnley, ending his five-year spell with the Red Devils. The 21-year-old Tunisia international, who joined United’s youth ranks from Monaco in 2019, is now set to embark on a new chapter in the Championship with the Clarets.
Hannibal’s journey at Manchester United saw him rise through the ranks, eventually making his first-team debut in 2021 against Wolves. This marked a significant moment in his career as he became the 239th graduate from the club’s esteemed academy. Despite showing glimpses of his potential, including scoring his only senior goal in a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023, Hannibal struggled to secure a regular spot in the first team.
During his time at Old Trafford, Hannibal made 13 appearances for the senior side but found more opportunities on loan. In the 2022/23 season, he spent time with Championship side Birmingham City, where he gained valuable experience. The second half of last season saw him head to Spain, joining Sevilla on loan, where he made six appearances in La Liga.

With just one year left on his United contract, the summer transfer window presented the ideal moment for both the club and player to seek a fresh start. Burnley, who were relegated from the Premier League last season and are now managed by Scott Parker, have snapped up the young midfielder for an initial fee of £5.4 million. This figure could rise to £9.4 million with performance-related add-ons. Additionally, United have secured a 50 percent sell-on clause and a buy-back option, ensuring they remain connected to Hannibal’s future career.
Hannibal expressed his excitement about joining Burnley, highlighting the club’s project under Parker and the passionate atmosphere at Turf Moor, which he experienced as an opponent. With 27 caps for Tunisia and having been part of their 2022 World Cup squad, Hannibal brings international experience to Burnley’s ranks as they aim to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Burnley’s announcement of Hannibal’s signing added a creative touch, nodding to the Oasis reunion with a playful twist on the band’s hit song “Wonderwall,” showcasing the club’s flair in their summer signings.
