New Delhi: The legendary Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday shared a picture of the spot where a statute of his childhood coach late Ramakant Achrekar will be built at Mumbai’s iconic Shivaji Park. Achrekar was Tendulkar’s childhood coach and played an instrumental role in helping him become one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Achrekar remained Tendulkar’s guiding force right from the start to the end of his illustrious career.
Achrekar, who used to coach at Shivaji Park, shaped the careers of several Mumbai cricketers, including Tendulkar, who is regarded as one of the greatest batters of all time. Recently, the Maharashtra government announced building a memorial for the late cricket coach at Shivaji Park to honour his contributions to Indian cricket.
Taking to social media, Tendulkar shared a picture of the spot where Achrekar’s state will be built at Shivaji Park. The state will be built at the Kamat Memorial Cricket Club at the famous ground where the Master Blaster himself began his cricketing journey as a child.
“Pointing to where my journey began—Kamath Memorial Cricket Club at Shivaji Park. Soon, Achrekar Sir’s presence will be eternalised here with his statue—a fitting tribute to the man who shaped countless lives,” Tendulkar wrote while sharing a picture of the spot.

Six feet statute to be installed in honour of Dronacharya awardee Ramakant Achrekar
The Maharashtra government announced that Achrekar’s statue which will be erected at the Shivaji Park will be six feet in height. Their proposal has been cleared by the Department of Urban Development. The memorial will be maintained by the V Kamath Memorial Cricket Club after its construction.
Achrekar, who was conferred with the prestigious Dronacharya award in 2019, coached as many as 14 cricketers who went on to play for Team India. Apart from Tendulkar, the likes of Lalchand Rajput, Vinod Kambli, Ajit Agarkar and Ramesh Powar were also coached by the great Achrekar.
Lauding the Maharashtra government’s decision to honour his childhood coach, Tendulkar said he was happy that Achrekar was being immortalised at his karmabhoomi – the Shivaji Park.
“Achrekar Sir has had an immense impact on my life and several other lives. I am speaking on behalf of all his students. His life revolved around cricket in Shivaji Park. Being at Shivaji Park forever is what he would have wished for. I am very happy with the government’s decision to build a statue for Achrekar Sir at his karmabhoomi,” Tendulkar wrote in a tweet.
