New Delhi: British tennis player Jack Draper endured a tough time on the court at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York before he went down to World No.1 Jannik Sinner in the US Open semifinal 7-5, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2.
Despite displaying a tremendous fight against the Australian Open, the 22-year-old Jake Draper faced the wrath of the climatic conditions in the New Apple. According to BBC Sport, the 25th seeded vomited as many as three times in the second set.
Draper, who appeared in his maiden Grand Slam semifinal, was enfeebled with the game moving further. He was seen reduced to pace walking as the match was halted for a while.

Draper lost the momentum from the third set onwards and was never to make a return again. The youngster, who became the first British player to reach US Open semifinal after Andy Murray in 2012, was undone by 10 double faults and 43 unforced errors besides the illness factor.
Even after the grueling loss, the British tennis player had some words of encouragement from his opponent Sinner.
“Everyone has his own time and way and path. But I’m quite sure he’s potentially winning some big titles in the future. He has a great attitude on the court, he’s working hard. He’s also lefty, it’s something different,” Sinner said after the match, as quoted by news agency AFP.
“His ball striking and choosing the right shots in the right time. There are some feelings you have with certain players, and he is one of them,” the Australian Open 2024 champion.
Jack Draper is touted as the next big star in British tennis circuit after being his country’s top-ranked player and won his first ATP title in Stuttgart in June before raising the bar of his game in the US Open with last four appearance.
I’m definitely someone who is quite an anxious human being. I think when you add all that together, sometimes I do feel a bit of nausea on court, and I do feel a little bit sick when it gets tough. I didn’t have any problems before the match, but it obviously just built up,” said Draper.
