Harry Kane marks England century with brace in Nations League win over Finland

New Delhi: England captain Harry Kane made history in his 100th appearance, becoming the first player to score two goals for England in such a milestone match. The striker’s 67th and 68th goals in the second half powered the Three Lions to victory over Finland in the Nations League at Wembley.

The 31-year-old broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with an unstoppable drive. He doubled his tally 14 minutes from the end following a square pass from substitute Noni Madueke on his international debut securing three points for the England.

Harry Kane achieved the feat by wearing golden boots and leading onto the pitch with his two children. He received the commemorative gold cap from former players Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole.

England’s interim manager, Lee Carsley was full of admiration for the captain. He said, “His finishing is very good, even in training. It’s not a surprise when he scores goals as his habits are so good.”

Kane received a standing ovation as he exited the game after an impactful performance and underscoring his significant impact on England’s football history.

Joining an elite club, Kane became the third English player to score on their 100th appearance, following in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton. Speaking about the same Kane said, “I don’t think I was even thinking of 100 caps when I was on loan at Millwall, Norwich, and Leicester.”

Harry Kane highlighted how he was being doubted initially and how all those things helped him to stay focused and motivated in training and games. Kane has always taken criticism very well and converted the energy and hunger to go and perform. 

“On his 100th strike, the Bayern Munich forward said, ‘As a striker of course on my 100th cap I wanted to score a goal and make the night as memorable as possible and to win the game as well.’ Harry Kane concluded with the statement- “Come October I will be ready to go again.”
