Days after maiden Test ton vs New Zealand, Sarfaraz Khan blessed with a baby boy

New Delhi: Days after scoring his maiden Test century for India in the recently concluded 1st Test against New Zealand, Team India batter Sarfaraz Khan received more good news on Monday as he was blessed with his first baby. Sarfaraz became father to a baby boy and shared pictures with the newborn which instantly went viral on social media.

Sarfaraz, who is celebrating his 27th birthday on Tuesday, October 22, became a father a day before his special day, giving his family more reasons to celebrate. Sarfaraz tied the knot last year. After the birth of his first child, he travelled to Mumbai with his wife and the rest of his family while the rest of the Indian team travelled to Pune for the second Test.

Sarfaraz’s wife Romana Zahoor was present with the rest of his family when the Mumbai batter earned his maiden India Test cap against England in August this year. Sarfaraz has so far played four Tests for India and has amassed 350 runs to make the most of the opportunities that have come his way. Sarfaraz played one of the best knocks of his career so in the 1st Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru.

Sarfaraz Khan’s impressive show against New Zealand

Sarfaraz was picked in India’s playing XI for the 1st Test against the Kiwis in Bengaluru following an injury to Shubman Gill. He went on to make the most of the opportunity by smashing a big hundred in the hosts’ second innings to help them stage a fightback after getting bundled out for a paltry 46 in their first innings of the Test match.

Sarfaraz was dismissed on a duck in the first innings as India suffered a terrible collapse. However, he bounced back strongly with a brilliant 150 off 195 balls in the second innings. Sarfaraz combined with Rishabh Pant (99) to share a 177-run stand for the 4th wicket during India’s second innings and helped the hosts post 462 runs on the board, overhauling New Zealand’s 356-run lead and setting up a 107-run target for them.

However, Sarfaraz’s efforts were not enough as New Zealand cruised to a historic victory after comfortably chasing down the target of 107 runs in their second innings on Day 5. New Zealand recorded their first Test victory in India in 36 years. India and New Zealand will lock horns in the 2nd Test of the three-match Test series at the MCA Stadium in Pune from Thursday, October 24.
