New Delhi: Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored his seventh ODI hundred in the second match against South Africa at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Friday, September 20. He reached to the milestone with a boundary in Aiden Markram’s over. Gurbaz scored 105 runs off 110 balls and was removed by fast bowler Nandre Burger. His remarkable knock was laced with 10 boundaries and one maximum.

Afghanistan posted 311 runs in the 50 overs in the first ODI. The opening pair of Gurbaz and Riaz Hassan stitched an 88-run partnership for the first wicket. Aiden Markram provided South Africa with the first breakthrough and dismissed Rahmat for 29 runs. But Gurbaz stitched another 101-run partnership with Rahmat Shah. Azmatullah Omarzai’s outstanding unbeaten 86-run knock helped the hosts to post a big total on the scoreboard.
Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger, Nqaba Peter and Aiden Markram picked up one wicket each. Afghanistan’s bowlers will look to repeat their first ODI performance against the Proteas batter.

Afghanistan defeated South Africa by 6 wickets in the first ODI. The Proteas batter looked clueless against Afghanistan’s sensational bowling. Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissed Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram while Allah Ghazanfar also removed Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne and Jason Smith in the first 10 overs.
Wiaan Mulder’s brilliant half-century helped the visitors to post 106 runs on the scoreboard. Faaroqi picked up 4 wickets while Allah Ghazanfar also took 3 wickets in the match. Chasing the target of 107 runs, Afghanistan’s batter also struggled against South African bowlers.
Lungi Ngidi removed Gurbaz in the first over while spinner Bjorn Fortuin dismissed Raiz Hassan and Rahmat Shah. But a 47-run partnership between Gulbadin and Azmatullah took the hosts over the line in the first match of series.
