New Delhi: Rohit Sharma just can’t catch a break at the moment. The India skipper has been at the centre of focus for the last three months due to his form in red-ball cricket. After horror displays against New Zealand at home and Australia away, Rohit decided to regain his form by going back to where it all started – the Ranji Trophy.
But the opening batter failed the domestic test on his return after suffering two failures in two innings in the Ranji Trophy Elite, Group A match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir.
Rohit, returning to the Ranji Trophy after a decade, was dismissed cheaply for 3 in the morning session on Day 1 after attempting a signature pull shot as none of the stars failed to fire with the bat. It was only because of Shardul Thakur’s counter-attacking half-century that the defending champions were able to reach 120.
Rohit got another bite at the cherry in the second innings on Day 2. He started brilliantly by showing an aggressive approach and raced to 28 with the help of three maximums and two boundaries. His 35-ball knock was studded with some trademark shots including a sumptuous six over mid-off and a huge maximum over deep square leg.
Rohit messes it up again
But just when Rohit looked to get his groove back, the stylish batter was dismissed in a shocking fashion. Rohit was caught at midwicket off a good length ball on the fourth stump which he tried to hit with a wild swing and away from the body. Rohit, who is known for style and grace, showed poor technique on a ball that he should have played with a straight bat. As soon as the video of Rohit’s dismissal went viral, fans started questioning the technique of the India skipper.

Shardul rescues Mumbai
When the chips were down, Shardul Thakur, the out-of-favour all-rounder rescued Mumbai for the second successive day. After hitting a counter-attacking fifty on Day 1 to help Mumbai reach 120, Shardul scored a stunning century to take Mumbai from 101 for 7 to 251 for 7 at Stumps on Day 1.
Shardul sent a strong message to the selectors with his maiden first-class century and shared an unbeaten 173-run stand with Tanush Kotian (58) to take Mumbai to 274/7 with a lead of 188 runs.
Watch the Rohit Sharma dismissal that everyone is talking about. The India skipper made his comeback to Ranji Trophy after a decade but returned with scores of 3 and 28 in Mumbai vs Jammu and Kashmir match.
