New Delhi: YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is reportedly set to take on another boxing great in his next fight after beating the legendary Mike Tyson in a historic bout last year. Paul beat retired Tyson in a fight that was live-streamed on the popular streaming platform Netflix and shattered all records with more than 65 million viewers tuning in to watch the match.
Paul is reportedly set to take on Mexican boxing great Canelo Alvarez in his next fight. Alvarez is the undisputed super middleweight champion and is regarded as one of the best pro boxers in the world at present. The 34-year-old has held multiple world championships in as many as four weight classes from light middleweight to light heavyweight.
Boxing journalist Julius Julians took to social media platform X to reveal that Paul and Alvarez have agreed for the fight to take place in May this year. The report has set social media abuzz with many tipping the showdown between Alvarez and Paul to be the biggest boxing bout of the year. Paul too hinted at the fight being a real possibility by teasing a showdown albeit in July this year.

The rumours of a fight between Canelo and Paul first gained momentum when Eddie Hearn, a prominent boxing promoted hinted at a potential clash between the duo and said that the discussions were underway. While certain hiccups might come in the way, if the match does materialise it can become one of the biggest pay-per-view boxing events this year.
Weight difference major challenge for Canelo vs Paul
The biggest challenge if the fight was to take place would be the massive weight gap between Paul and Canelo. While Canelo competes at 168 pounds, Paul fights in weight categories ranging from 190 to 200 pounds. A match could be agreed upon at the catchweight of around 185 pounds, however, that will put Mexican Canelo at a massive disadvantage since he will have to fight in a weight category much superior to his original weight.
Paul has expressed his desire to fight Canelo in the past, stating that he doesn’t consider the Mexican a ‘monster’ in his eyes. However, Canelo has always maintained he would prefer fighting actual boxers than influencers. Nonetheless, Canelo might be forced to change his decision if the payday is lucrative enough for him with the fight expected to generate more than $100 million if it does happen.
