After shock loss to Bangladesh, Pakistan promise major changes

New Delhi: Stung by the low of maiden defeat to Bangladesh in Test cricket, Pakistan have vowed to make changes to pull them out of their current abyss. Pakistan lost in the first Test to Bangladesh by 10 wickets in Rawalpindi, their first defeat to them in Test cricket.

They picked a four-pronged pace attack without any spinner and crashed against the spin threat of veteran Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, getting bowled out for 146 runs in the second  innings.

It has led to all-round criticism of the team and its players, putting pressure of Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who has promised to make sweeping changes.

“I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way,” Naqvi said while speaking to reporters, as quoted by PTI.

Former players like Shahid Afridi, Mohammed Hafeez, Ramiz Raja and Kamran Akmal have pointed out the deficiencies in the team, from team selection to poor fitness and form of players, highlighting the decrease in pace of the fat bowlers as the match progressed.

Pakistan have faced a series of disappointments in recent times,  from Group stages exits in ODI World Cup last year and T20 World Cup in June earlier this year.

Naqvi had earlier said that Pakistan cricket needed a major overhaul of the system to improve after their exit from the ODI World Cup.

But no such changes were made as he same set of players took the field in the first Test against Bangladesh. Test skipper Shan Masood who is under pressure after his fourth consecutive loss in first four games in charge was appointed captain only after the ODI World Cup last November.

“Remember my words that things will not remain the same and a lot is happening in the background,” Naqvi said thought he didn’t provide details.

Naqvi has appointed Gary Kirsten as the white-ball ciqxh and Jason Gillespie as coach of the Test team and also launched a new domestic tournament t named the Champions Cup were all players are directed to participate from next month.

Naqvi has appointed former cricketers Waqar Younis, Misbah ul Haq, Shoaib amlik, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq as mentor of the five teams that will participate in the Champions Cup on three-year contracts.
