New Delhi: Punjab’s Arjun Babuta and Ojasvi Thakur showcased brilliant composure and precision to win a gold medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event on Day 4 of shooting competitions at the 38th National Games in Dehradun on Saturday, February 1.
Arjun and Ojasvi defeated Maharashtra’s Arya Borse and Rudrankksh Patil by 16-12 in a tough gold medal match at the Trishool Shooting Range in Dehradun. The match was closely contested as there was nothing much to separate both duos in the most part of the game but Punjab won it with a final shot score of 21.4 against Maharashtra’s 21.0.
West Bengal’s Abhinav Shaw and Ismita Bhowal put up a great performance to beat Gujarat by 17-11 in the bronze medal match. Their final shot score of 21.1 proved better than Gujarat’s 20.4 which earned them a place on the podium. Earlier, 25 teams from across the country participated in the qualification round and the top four teams advanced to the final. Punjab led the qualification points table with a score of 631.7, followed by Maharashtra (630.7), West Bengal (630.6) and Gujarat (629.4).
Punjab’s Simranpreet Kaur Brar was in first position in the qualification round with a score of 579 in the women’s 25m pistol event. Delhi’s Pushpanjali Rana (578), Karnataka’s T S Divya (577), Maharashtra’s Rahi Jeevan Sarnobat (576), Haryana’s Annu Raj (576), Maharashtra’s Riya Shirish Thatte (576), Punjab’s Neeraj Kaur (574) and Haryana’s Anjali Choudhary (573) were the shooters who qualified for final round.
‘It feels absolutely amazing to win gold for our state’: Ojasvi
Ojasvi Thakur after the match said that it feels amazing to win a gold medal for the state and it was great team effort. While Babuta said that we both focused on our individual performances striving to achieve maximum points.
