New Delhi: Tata Group-Singapore Airlines joint venture Vistara’s last flight will take off into the sunset on November 11 as the two parents have agreed to merge the brand with Air India, the larger Tata Group-owned entity in which SIngapore Airlines will have a 25.1 per cent stake. On November 12, Vistara will be folded into Air India after the government gave its nod for FDI from Singapore Airlines into the merged entity.
All about Vistara
Vistara airlines flew its first flight on January 9, 20215 as a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines. Vistara’s first flight took off from Delhi for Mumbai. While the Tata Group’s stake in the airline stood at 51 per cent, Singapore Airlines’s stake stood at 49 per cent.
As of date, Vistara connected 50 destinations both within and outside India, operating more than 300 flights per day. The airline has a fleet of 70 jets at its disposal. Vistara derived its name from the Sanskrit word ‘Vistaar’ which means “expansion”.
Air India-Vistara merger was announced in 2022. It is expected to offer customers a wider choice as the combined fleet will be an expanded one and provide wider network coverage, said Vistara CEO Vinod Kannan.
Last date to fly Vistara
As shared above, Vistara will take its last flight under its original brand name on November 11, 2024. The airline will continue to receive customer bookings until November 11, 2024. On November 12, 2024, Vistara’s flight numbers will change to Air India’s.
From September 3, 2024, customers flocking to Vistara’s website for travel bookings after November 11, 2024, will be redirected to the Air India website. Customers who were booked to fly Vistara on November 12, 2024, will be informed about the change in their flight numbers to Air India in a phased manner.
Vistara-Air India staff merger
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said the jets and crew of Vistara will be moved to Air India on November 12, 2024. The airline is in the last leg of a prolonged and complicated merger, Wilson reportedly said in a communication to staffers. Vistara’s air operator certificate will also be transferred to Air India on November 12, 2024, Wilson added.
