New Delhi: Indian shooters Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta will have a chance to etch their name in the history of the Indian Olympics as they partake in the finals of the 10m air rifle at the Paris Olympic 2024 on Monday. Both young guns are eyeing their first-ever Olympic medal as they qualified for the finals in their respective categories in the qualification rounds on Sunday.
Ramita took the shooting range first and after a few ups and downs in the series, managed to finish fifth and advance to the finals. It is understood that only the top eight shooters qualify for the final event and Ramita’s score stood at 631.5. She took part in the event with her compatriot Elavenil Valarivan who was going well in the initial rounds but ended up on the tenth spot with a score of 630.7. The 20-year-old will face tough competition as four of her opponents (from China, Norway, Switzerland, and South Korea) fared better than her – South Korea topping the leaderboard with 634.5.
Arjun took the range next in the men’s category of the event and managed to finish seventh, just two places off cut off, advancing to the finals. The 25-year-old scored 630.1 points across the series. Arjun was also competing with his companion Sandeep Singh who finished with a score of 629.3 on the 12th spot. Both started off on a bright note but Sandeep faltered in the last few shots that cost him the final spot.
