New Delhi: Swedish ace track and field athlete Armand Duplantis on Saturday clinched the men’s pole vault event in the World Indoor Championships 2025 in Nanjing, Republic of China. This was the third consecutive indoor title for the dynamic pole vaulter.
The world record-holder, who is popularly known by the name of ‘Mondo’, made a clearance of 6.15m to defend his title. He claimed his seventh world title (including indoor and outdoor). The Swedish athlete got a stiff competition from Emmanouil Karalis, who eventually took the silver home with a jump of 6.05m, which helped the 25-year-old set a new Greek national record. Sam Kendricks of America was third for the bronze with a clearance of 5.90m.

Remarkably, this was the 100th time when Duplantis cleared the 6m mark, which makes him the first athlete to achieve the feat. Sergey Bubka of Ukraine has made clearance of six metres 46 times in his career.
This wasn’t one of the lopsided contest as has been the case in the men’s pole vault in the recent events. The reigning Olympic champion failed to clear the 6.10m in first attempt but made progress in the following attempt. It took him just one attempt to get past the 6.15m to claim the gold.
For Karalis, this was the first instance when a pole vaulter managed to clear 6.05m and yet not hold the gold.
Duplantis, who earlier in the month smashed his own world record with a 6.27m mark at the All Star Perche event in France, didn’t opt to chase his own record and was contented with the effort of 6.15m this time. The 25-year-old athlete has broken the world record 11 times in his career thus far.
Armand Duplantis secured his third consecutive World Indoor Pole Vault title in Nanjin. This remarkable jump marked his 100th clearance of 6 meters, a historic feat. Emmanouil Karalis took silver, setting a new Greek national record. Other Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
