Asaduddin Owaisi says ‘Jai Palestine’ after taking oath as MP for fifth time

Hyderabad: AIMIM leader and Hyderabad MP on Tuesday took oath as a member of Parliament for the fifth time.

As Owaisi made his way to take oath, BJP MPs in the parliament could be seen raising the slogans of ‘Jai Shree ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Unfazed by the majoritarian intimidation, Owaisi ended his oath with the slogans Jai Bhim, Jai Mim, Jai Telangana, Jai Falasteen and Allah-u-Akbar.

After he finished his oath taking, many BJP members criticised him for saying ‘Jai Palestine’. Speaking to PTI outside Parliament,  he said, “Other members are also saying different things. I said, ‘Jai Bheem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine’. How is it wrong? Tell me the provision of the constitution. I said what I had to. Read what Mahatma Gandhi had said about Palestine.”

After taking oath, he posted on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he will continue to raise issues of India’s marginalised with sincerity.

Owaisi defeated BJP’s Madhavi Latha in the recently concluded Parliamentary election from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

Owaisi’s support of the Palestinian cause:

The AIMIM leader has been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and a critic of the state of Israel, terming the extreme violence inflicted on the Gaza Strip since October 8 as ‘Genocide’.

Israeli bombing campaign in the besieged enclave of Gaza killed at least 40,000 Palestinians since October 8, out of which 15,000 are children and 9,000 are women. On Monday, British aid group Save The Children said that an additional 21,000 children are missing under the rubble, detained and trapped.

As Owaisi went to take oath, BJP MPs heckled Asaduddin Owaisi with ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogans.  Telangana States News India: Top News India, States News, States News Headlines, Online State News India, State Politics news
