New Delhi: With Afghanistan’s historic win over Bangladesh in the last match of the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight, all four semi-finalists are confirmed. After edging past Australia on Monday, India became the third team after England and South Africa to reach the last four.
The final spot was confirmed after Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 8 runs (DLS) to qualify for a World Cup final for the first time. Their progression ousted reigning ODI World Cup champions Australia in the process.
The semi-final line-up promises a couple of blockbuster clashes on June 27, Thursday. The first semi-final will see Afghanistan taking on South Africa, who like India are unbeaten in the tournament. The second semi-final will witness two giant nations locking horns for a berth in the final. India and England will reignite their rivalry at the Providence Stadium, Guyana and fans, especially Indians, can’t wait for the match for a special reason.
Indians don’t have fond memories when it comes to facing England at the T20 World Cup stage. The last meeting, especially, has stayed fresh in the memories for all the wrong reasons. Perhaps, that’s why fans are reacting so passionately in the build-up to the much-awaited match on Thursday.
The last time India and England met in a T20 World Cup match, things didn’t turn out how the Indian fans were expecting. Similar to what will happen in the 2024 edition, India and England were up against each other in the semi-final. It turned out to be a lopsided contest as the Three Lions crushed India by 10 wickets to reach the final and eventually went on to win the title.
The crushing defeat at the Adelaide Oval is still fresh in the memories of Indian fans, who want revenge against Jos Buttler’s men on Thursday.

Can unbeaten India end the ICC and World Cup jinx?
India have the perfect opportunity to end the ICC trophy and World Cup jinx. With Rohit Sharma in sublime form, Hardik Pandya back to his best, Suryakumar Yadav in fine touch and the pace duo of Jasprit Bumrah among the wickets, India look primed to end an 11-year-long wait for an ICC title. Just like at the 2023 ODI World Cup, India enter the semi-final undefeated and would aim to to remain so for two more games.
