New Delhi: The Asia Cup 2025 is likely to be cancelled due to the ongoing political unrest between India and Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. In the ghastly attack, as many as 26 tourists were killed and several others injured when terrorists opened fire in the picturesque Baisaran valley of Pahalgam in south Kashmir.
The 17th edition of the tournament, which is slated to take place in the month of September, will most likely be cancelled after pressure from the Indian government and the citizens of the country to cut all the cricketing ties with the neighbouring country. Additionally, the recent incident is not only likely to impact the Asia Cup but India’s tour to Bangladesh in August as well, as per a report published by TOI.
Fate of Asia Cup, Bangladesh tour uncertain
India are likely to play three ODI and as many T20I matches against Bangladesh in August 2025 but clouds of uncertainty are looming over the tour as well because of the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan majorly along with Bangladesh as well. As per a report in Times of India, it has been revealed that the upcoming Asia Cup could be probably cancelled or pushed back as the timing of the event is not ideal for any cricketing ties between India and Pakistan.
As of now, the certainty of the event hangs by a thread. Meanwhile, the last edition of the Asia Cup was held in 2023 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. India, who played all their matches in Sri Lanka unlike the other teams who travelled to Pakistan for few contests, were crowned the champions. Indian players, who are busy with the IPL 2025, will be travelling to England for a five-match Test series starting on June 20, which will be their next international assignment.
