New Delhi: No Indian player found a place in the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year for 2024 as breakout stars dominated the year’s ODI X1. The absence of Indian players doesn’t come as a surprise as the Asian giants played only three 50-over matches in 2024. That’s a shocking number considering the amount of cricket that is played in these times.
The ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2024 has plenty of young superstars who announced their arrivals on the big stage in 2024. The playing X1 features a whopping 10 Asian players including four Sri Lankans, three Pakistanis and three Afghanistanis.
Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kusal Mendis, who emerged as the highest run-scorer in ODIs in 2024, is unsurprisingly in the team, led by his teammate Charith Asalanka. West Indies star Sherfane Rutherford is the lone non-Asian team, which also features the rising star of world cricket Allah Ghazanfar of Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Nissanka, who smashed 210* against Afghanistan in February also finds a spot in the team.
