New Delhi: In one of the biggest upsets in the ongoing Australian Open 2025, 19-year-old American qualifier Learner Tien stunned three-time runner-up Daniil Medvedev of Russia in a five-set thriller on Thursday. In the second round marathon match of the men’s singles, Tien knocked out Medvedev 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 1-6, 7-6 in a clash which lasted for 4 hours and 48 minutes.
After dominating the match in the first two sets, the Russia fifth seed bounced back superbly in the third and fourth set with a marvellous display of tactics and resistance but the happiness for Medvedev was short lived as the closely-fought deciding set went in favour of the American tennis sensation.
