New Delhi: Novak Djokovic took a significant step in his bid for the record 25th Grand Slam win as he defeated Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Tuesday.
It was the 10-time Australian Open champion Djokovic’s 50th Grand Slam semi-final entrance, the most by any male tennis player.
Seeded seventh this time, Djokovic reached his 12th semi-final at Melbourne Park.

Djokovic was beaten by eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semi-final last year and failed to win a Gramd Slam in a season for the first time since 2017.
But the Serb dispelled all doubts about his fitness and ability to win his 25th major title with a top-quality performance to beat Alcaraz in three hours and 37 minutes.
Djokovic will meet Alexander Zverev in the last four, with the world number two German beat Tommy Paul 7-6 (7/1), 7-6 (7/0), 2-6, 6-1 victory over the 12th-seeded American.
“To be honest, I should have been down two sets to love,” Zverev said, as he targets to become the first male German player to win the Australian Open since Boris Becker in 1996.
