New Delhi: The 2025 Indian Premier League is likely to begin on March 21 and will follow the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct regulation for players, it was decided at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s special general meeting.
At the SGM in Mumbai on Sunday, the BCCI’s governing council also decided that the Women’s Premier League will be held across four cities of Lucknow, Mumbai, Baroda and Bengaluru.
From now on, ICC’s sanctioned penalties will be imposed for Level 1, 2 or 3 offences. Till date, IPL had its own Code of Conduct but going forward, Playing Conditions will be followed as per ICC T20I regulations,” an IPL governing council member told PTI.
Eden Gardens to host IPL 2025 final
Even though BCCI vice-president and former IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla had said that the glamour tournament would commence from March 23, it was later clarified by a senior governing council member that March 21 is likely to be the start date.
The iconic Eden Gardens ground in Kolkata would host the final of IPL 2025 apart from the second Qualifier while the Eliminator and the first Qualifier would be staged at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
The BCCI though is still working on the final schedule of the tournament but it hasn’t prevented franchises to begin their training camps with home-grown players.
The 10 participating franchises spent Rs 639.15 crore on 182 ppayers at the mega auction held last year.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the reigning champions and would have to begin afresh after letting go of their title winning captain Shreyas Iyer, who has since been named the skipper of Punjab Kings, who spent Rs 26.75 crore to bring him into their fold.
Star keeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the costliest player ever in the tournament’s history with Lucknow Super Giants making a winning bid of Rs 27 crore.
