New Delhi: Karun Nair continued his dream scoring run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 with another scintillating knock in India’s premier 50-over tournament. Nair, the Vidarbha captain, who entered the semi-final against Maharashtra, with a remarkable five centuries in seven innings, under his belt, might have missed out on his sixth ton on Thursday, but his unbeaten half-century was no less incredible.
Nair came to bat in the 39th over after the fall of Yash Rathod (116), who combined with Dhruv Shorey (114) to stitch a massive 224-run partnership for the first wicket.
Nair was off to a decent start, reaching 51 off 35 in the 48th over. But the right-handed batter went into overdrive and pummelled 37 runs in his nine balls to finish on 88* off 44 balls. His late blitzkrieg powered Vidarbha to a massive total of 380 for 3 in 50 overs. Nair was particularly brutal in the last over smashing Rajneesh Gurbani for 24 runs in the last over.

Jitesh Sharma also played a quickfire cameo of 51 off 33 balls.
Nair does it again!
Following the 88-run knock, Nair’s average soared to an unreal figure of 752. His numbers in the VHT are nothing short of remarkable. In the eight innings, he has been dismissed only once with scores of 122*(108), 44*(52), 163*(107), 111*(103), 112(101), 122*(82), 88*(44) taking his aggregate to 752 runs.
Out-of-favour from the India set-up for the last nine years despite scoring a triple hundred in a Test against England, Nair is knocking hard on the doors of selectors, presenting a strong case for himself for England ODIs and ICC Champions Trophy.
In 2022, he begged the game to give him a second chance in cricket, two years later, selectors are going to find it very difficult to ignore his performances.
