New Delhi: Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s poor show continued in the second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi. Babar once again failed to notch up a big knock as he was dismissed cheaply on 31 off 77 balls during Pakistan’s first innings of the 2nd Test. The hosts were bundled out for 274 runs in their first innings in what was another dismal show from the batters after a shock defeat in the first Test.
Pakistan batters were expected to come up with a strong response after the hosts were stunned in the series opener at the same venue. However, it was the same old story for the hosts as the batters failed to deliver as a unit. Saim Ayub (58) and captain Shan Masood (57) cracked half-centuries apiece to share a 107-run stand for the 2nd wicket after opener Abdullah Shafique was dismissed on a duck in the very first over of Pakistan’s first innings.
Babar joined Ayub in the middle after Masood’s dismissal in the 28th over and started well as he looked in decent touch. However, he failed to convert his start into a big score once again and perished for 31 after being trapped lbw by Shakib Al Hasan in the 54th over. It was another low-key score from Babar after he recorded scores of 0 and 22 in his two innings in the 1st Test against the visitors.
Babar was brutally trolled on social media following his flop show in the 2nd Test as he was called out by fans for his inconsistent run. While many slammed him for his poor show, some said Babar looked finished as a batter in Tests as he has been far from his best for a long time now.

Babar is finished. He can’t score a run right now even if his life depended on it. In every innings there is some new technical flaw arising. A career which had so much potential is destroyed and he has no one else to blame except himself. Should be dropped imo.

20 months without a Test fifty
Babar has now gone 20 months without scoring a half-century in Test cricket for Pakistan. He last went past the 50-run mark in a Test match against New Zealand in Karachi in December 2022 where he smashed a brilliant knock of 161 runs. Babar has since failed to score a half-century in his next 15 innings with 41 being his highest score in the period.
Since January 2023, the former Pakistan captain has managed only 320 runs in 15 innings in Test cricket at an abysmal average of 21.33 without a half-century.
