New Delhi: The runner-up of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Haryana Steelers will be aiming to go one step ahead in this season to lift their maiden PKL trophy. Steelers have been a consistent team in the PKL as they qualified for playoffs three times out of six times.
Steelers head coach Manpreet Singh has won the title as a coach in Patna Pirates camp but now Manpreet will be eager to lift the trophy in the Haryana’s camp. Manpreet has faced three PKL finals heartbreaks as he lost the previous year’s final in the Haryana camp and twice with the Gujarat Giants camp.
Steelers hadn’t been the busiest team at the auction table but they purchased an explosive Mohammad Shadloui for a whopping Rs. 2.07 crores. The Iranian all-rounder had an impact with the previous year’s winner Puneri Paltan.
Haryana’s strength in this PKL edition will be its newly formed defence department. They bought star defender Shadloui, they have three defenders from last year’s top 10 defender list. Rahul Sethpal was the top defender in the last edition. Sethpal made 73 record tackle points in the previous season and to help him Jaideep Dahiya will be his side. Dahiya scored 68 tackle points in the last season.
Steelers’ raiding department will be a concern as they don’t have any raider who is consistent. Vinay was their star raider in the previous season scoring 163 raid points but apart from him, no other raider has scored 100 raid points in the last edition.
Haryana’s raiding department will also have the best opportunities this season as Shadloui also is the player to watch in raiding. Shadloui has been working on his raiding skills and will get more opportunities by Steelers camp.
Vishal Tate will be another player to watch out for this year, he didn’t get many chances in the last edition and only managed 24 raid points in just three games.
