‘Bad Debate Nights Happen’: Barack Obama Reacts to Biden Vs Trump Faceoff

Following the first US presidential election debate between President Joe Biden and his Republican rival Donald Trump, Former President Barack Obama reacted to concern over Biden after dismal performance. “Bad debate nights happen,” Obama wrote.

“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit,” Obama remarked.

A look back at the past when Obama lost the debate

Twelve years ago, Republican challenger Mitt Romney emerged victorious in the debate against Obama, an event that saw pundits on both sides of the aisle pan the then-president’s performance and prompted concerns among Democrats about their prospects in the upcoming November elections.

First presidential debate result

According to a CNN poll aired after the debate, 67% of viewers thought Trump won, while 33% believed Biden was the winner. In contrast, CNN’s poll after the final 2020 presidential debate indicated that 53% of viewers felt Biden won, compared to 39% who thought Trump won.

From discussing the economy, unemployment, abortion rights and the US’s foreign policy, President Joe Biden and Donald Trump locked horns in the first high-stake debate ahead of the presidential elections.
