New Delhi: Bangladesh won’t be short on confidence in their away Test series in India after beating Pakistan but expect a tougher battle since they have to tackle a different type of red-ball.
Bangladesh defeated Pakistan at their own backyard 2-0 and travel to India for a similar two-Test series beginning on September 19 in Chennai.
Litton Das was the star of Bangladesh’s victory over Pakistan, scoring 56 and 138 in the two Tests.
Together with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Shadman Islam, Das will form the backbone of the away team’s batting line up.
But Das anticipates a bigger battle in India, not only from the Indian players but also due to the use of SG balls in the series. In Pakistan, Kookaburra balls were used in then two Tests, which Bangladesh also use in their home games.
Hence they are well accustomed with the thinner stitches of lesser pronounced stitched of the Kookaburra balls compared to the Balls made by Indian company SG that also reverse swings more.
‘Harder’
“The ball will be a different one in India. It is a little harder to play against the SG ball,” Litton told ESPNCricinfo.
“The Kookaburra ball is easier to play when it gets old. It is the opposite with the SG ball. It is harder to get away against the old ball when it’s the SG.”
Das cracked 138 in the second Test to rescue Bangladesh from 26/6, which has been deemed as one of best Test knocks by a Bangladesh batter. But he said he wants to look forward and continue that form against India.
“We played good cricket against Pakistan but it is already in the past. It is important for us to look forward. We will need your (media’s) help. It would be helpful if you don’t talk about the Pakistan series. As a player, it is already in the past for me,” Litton said.
