New Delhi: Despite playing a full season of domestic cricket, Ishan Kishan will have to wait longer to get his Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) contract for the upcoming season, a report suggest. As per India Today, Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer is set to return to the central contracts list which will also witness the maiden entry of few players but the Indian cricket board will make Kishan wait longer.
Both Iyer and Kishan were snubbed from the BCCI’s central contracts list last year for failing to appear in domestic matches for their respective states and prioritising IPL over national and domestic assignments. While Iyer made his return to the national setup after participating in the domestic fixtures and was part of India’s Champions Trophy triumph but Kishan hasn’t played any cricket since November 2023.
Rohit, Kohli set to be retained in top category
The report further mentions that BCCI will announce the annual player retainership in the next few days with star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli set to be retained in the A+ category. The retainership value of both Rohit and Kohli is expected to be Rs 7 crore – the amount offered to the highest category in the central contracts list. In the last season, a total of four cricketers were in the bracket – Rohit, Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah.
All the four players are expected to be retained at the highest value with Bumrah being India’s pace spreadhead and Jadeja also playing a vital role in team’s triumph at the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy. The upcoming retainership will be applicable for the period from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025.
It is also being said that few players might make their debut in the central contracts list with Varun Chakravarthy being in the queue for the first time. Chakravarthy was part of India’s Champions Trophy campaign and has performed well in the shortest format taking 31 scalps in 12 T20Is.
