New Delhi: Ben Shelton defeated Lorenzo Sonego by 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4) to enter the semifinal of the Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Wednesday, January 22. The 22-year-old American, who reached the last four at the US Open 2023, is just two wins away from the title in Melbourne.
He is the second active American man to qualify for the multiple major semifinals after Frances Tifoe and is only the second active man from the USA to reach in the Australian Open semifinal after Tommy Paul. He will face either defending champion Jannik Sinner or Australia’s Alex de Minaur for a spot in the final at Melbourne Park.
