BGT: Travis Head skips training, remains doubtful for Boxing Day Test

New Delhi: Travis Head skipped Australia’s training on Monday, raising fresh questions on his availability for the Boxing Day Test against India at Melbourne.

The left hander has struck two hundreds in the first three Tests of the five-game Border-Gavaskar series that is currently locked at 1-1.

His successive centuries, in Australia’s win in the second game at Adelaide and the drawn third test at Brisbane, has made him the leading run scorer in the series.

The explosive batter has amassed 409 runs in five innings at an average of 81.80 with two tons and a fifty but picked up a quad injury at Brisbane.

He was seen limping between wickets while batting in the second innings in Brisbane last Wednesday and didn’t turn up to field later.

He was absent from Monday’s training at Melbourne Cricket Ground as Australia began preparations for the fourth game that begins on Thursday, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.

‘Sore’

In his post match speech after the rain-enforced draw in Brisbane, Head had downplayed the extent of his injury. “Just a little sore, but I should be fine (before the next game),” he had said.

But his absence from practice three days before the start of the crucial game has raised fresh speculation over the extent of his injury and his availability for the match.

An Australian team spokesperson said that Monday’s training session was optional and the hosts main preparation would begin from on Tuesday, where Head would have to pass his fitness test, reports the SMH.

Head has been India’s tormentor across formats and is a key player whose contribution can determine the outcome of the keenly contested series.
