New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Monday broke Dwayne Bravo’s record to become the most successful fast bower in the history of the Indian Premier Legaue (IPL). Bhuvneshwar surpassed Bravo on the list of the highest wicket-takers in the history of IPL after bagging a solitary wicket in RCB’s 12-run win against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Heading into the MI clash, Bhuvneshwar was tied with Bravo on the list of pacers with the most wickets in the IPL, with 183 wickets each. The RCB pacer dismissed half-centurion Tilak Varma on 56 in MI’s run-chase to bag his 184th scalp in the tournament and pip Bravo in the list of the highest wicket-takers of all time in the competition.
Bhuvneshwar now has 184 wickets to his name in 179 matches at an average of 27.28 and an excellent economy rate of 7.58, including two fifers and two four-wicket hauls. Bhuvneshwar, who is one of the best swing bowlers to have played for India, enjoyed his most successful stint at his former franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He is the leading wicket-taker for Sunrisers Hyderabad, with an impressive 157 wickets in 145 matches. Bhuvneshwar played for SRH for 11 seasons from 2014 to 2024 and was one of the most prolific wicket-takers for the franchise with both the new and the old ball. He is now only behind two spinners – Yuzvendra Chahal and Piyush Chawala on the list of the highest wicket-takers in IPl history.
